Sushmita Sen was born on 19 November 1975. Her father Shuber Sen is a former Indian Air Force Wing Commander, and Subhra Sen, a jewelry designer and owner of a Dubai-based store. She has two siblings.
She won the Miss Universe Pageant in 1994. She created history or sorts, as she was the first Indian woman to win the crown, since its inception. She then made her way to Bollywood. She made her debut with the Hindi film Dastak in 1996. The film it was alleged was loosely based on her life. She then acted in a Tamil film called Ratchagan.
Then in 1999 she acted in Sirf Tum, and was lauded for her performance in it. In the very same year she also acted in Biwi No 1 opposite Salman Khan. The movie was a commercial success and her acting in the film was also appreciated.
In fact, she won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award for her role. In the following years she acted in a number of commercially successful films like Aankhen (2002), Main Hoon Na (2004) (her biggest commercial success so far) and Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya? (2005).
On the other hand, she received critical appraise for her roles in films like Filhaal… (2002), Samay: When Time Strikes (2003), Chingaari (2005) and Zindaggi Rocks (2006). Although, it augers mention that none of these films proved to be commercially successful. She took a very bold and admirable decision when she adopted a baby girl named Renee way back in 2000. She took this decision despite being unmarried and decided to raise the child as a single mother.
As far as her relationships are concerned, she over the years has been linked to a number of men, but the last relationship that she had is with actor Randeep Hooda. The two reportedly broke up in 2009.
