Born on 9 June 1985, Sonam Kapoor is the daughter of the famous Bollywood actor Anil Kapoor. She has a brother and a sister and is eldest of the three. Both her uncles, Boney and Sanjay Kapoor are from the film fraternity. In fact her grandfather Surinder Kapoor was also a film producer.
Sonam decided to pursue the vocation of her father’s side of the family when she went into films. She made her debut as an actress starring opposite Ranbir Kapoor in the Sanjay Leela Bhansali film Saawariya in 2007. She then starred opposite Abhishek Bachchan in the film ‘Delhi-6’ in 2009.
But, she tasted her first success with the film ‘I Hate Luv Stories’ in 2010, in which she starred opposite Imran Khan. The movie was a romantic comedy. She subsequently starred in Aisha in 2010 and Thank You in 2011.
Sonam hasn’t really found a footing in Bollywood as yet and hasn’t seen the kind of success that Ranbir Kapoor has seen since the time he debuted with her. But, there is no denying the fact that Sonam has great fashion sense and is therefore seen often on magazine covers and fashion events, both at home and abroad.
Currently she is shooting for the film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag in which she shall be seen opposite Farhan Akhtar. The movie is a biopic of the famous Indian athlete Milkha Singh. She also has another film lined up called ‘Raanjhnaa’, which shall see the Hindi film debut of the South Indian superstar Dhanush.
Kapoor has also been signed on to do a Yash Raj Film co-starring Ayushmann Khurrana. As far as her personal life is concerned, it is rumored that she is seeing her I Hate Luv Storys director, Punit Malhotra. Although, neither Punit nor Sonam have officially confirmed this.
