Shahrukh Khan was born on 2 November 1965. His father Taj Mohammed Khan was an Indian Independence activist and his mother Lateef Fatima, was the adopted daughter of Major General Shah Nawaz Khan of the Indian Army. He began his career in acting with theatre and then television.
He made his big screen debut with the Hindi film Dil Aashna Hai in 1991, but the movie was plagued with production delays and in 1992 his film Deewana in which he was in a starring role, became a commercial success. His role in the film also received a lot of appreciation.
He then went on to star in a number of commercially and critically successful films like Darr (1993), Baazigar (1993) and Anjaam (1994) Dilwale Dulhaniya Le Jayenge (1995), Dil To Pagal Hai (1997) and Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998). Each of these films were not successful but also garnered him a number of awards and accolades.
Shahrukh was now in the top rung of Bollywood stars and had arrived. In the following years he made a number of commercially successful films, of which Swades (2004), Chak De! India (2007) and My Name Is Khan (2010) are films that are still etched in people’s memories.
Besides making films Sharukh over the years has also kept himself busy by starting his own film production company, buying his own cricket team in IPL (Indian Premier League) and even hosting the Indian version of ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’, titled ‘Kaun Banega Crorepati’. This does not mean that films have taken a backseat.
In fact, in 2012 he starred in Jab Tak Hai Jaan, which went on to become a commercial success both in India and abroad. In the future he is set to feature in Rohit Shetty’s action thriller Chennai Express and Farah Khan’s comedy Happy New Year.
