Salman Khan was born on 27 December 1965. His father is erstwhile Bollywood screenwriter Salim Khan and Salman is his son from his first wife Salma. Salman has two brothers and two sisters. Salman made his acting debut with the Hindi film Biwi Ho To Aisi in 1988, but did not have a very substantial role in it.
Then in 1989 he starred in Maine Pyar Kiya. The movie was a phenomenal success and made Salman a household name overnight. For his efforts he also received the Filmfare Award for the Best Male Debut. In the years to come Salman starred in a number of commercially successful films like Saajan (1991), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994), Karan Arjun (1995), Judwaa (1997), Pyar Kiya To Darna Kya (1998), Biwi No.1 (1999) and Hum Saath Saath Hain (1999).
He guest starred in the movie Kuch Kuch Hota Hai in 1999, and his performance in the movie was loved by all. His performance in the film also received recognition, when he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. It could now be safely said that Salman Khan had arrived and was here to stay. Filmmakers began to consider him as one of the most bankable stars in Bollywood.
In the subsequent years he proved why he was considered so bankable when he gave a string of box-office hits with films like Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999), Tere Naam (2003), Mujhse Shaadi Karogi (2004), No Entry (2005), and Partner (2007).
Then came 2009 and the film Wanted, which one could say opened a floodgates of sorts. In other words, the movie was the first in the line of films that has made Salman Khan the phenomenon he is today.
Wanted was a huge commercial success and it was followed by Dabangg (2010), Ready (2011), Bodyguard (2011), Ek Tha Tiger (2012) and Dabangg 2 (2012). Each of these films made more than 100 crore INR and gave birth to the term Rupees 100 crore club. Although this club has other Bollywood stars in it whose films have made more than 100 crore INR, Salman Khan at the moment leads the pack.
