Saif Ali Khan was born on 16 April 1970. He is the son of Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, who was a celebrated Indian cricketer and Sharmila Tagore and erstwhile Bollywood actress. He has two sisters.
In 1992 Saif made his acting debut with the Hindi film Parampara. Then in 1994 he acted in Main Khiladi Tu Anadi and Yeh Dillagi. Both the films were commercially successful. But, in the subsequent years Saif had to contend with a series of failures.
Just when it seemed that Saif’s film career would come to an abrupt end, along came Dil Chahta Hai in 2001. The film was a huge success and audiences and critics alike, loved the way Saif enacted his role in the film. Dil Chahta Hai was the turning point and helped resurrect his flagging career.
In 2003 he acted in Kal Ho Na Ho, which won him the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award. In 2004 he acted in Hum Tum. The film was a commercial and critical success and he won a National Award for Best Actor, for Hum Tum. Saif was slowly but surely beginning to climb the ladder of success.
In the following years he starred in successful films like Salaam Namaste (2005) and Race (2008) and starred in critically acclaimed projects such as Parineeta (2005), Being Cyrus and Omkara (2006). In 2009 Saif started his own production company Illuminati Films and produced his first film Love Aaj Kal. The movie was a success and at long last established him as one of the top stars of Bollywood.
In 2012 the movie Cocktail was huge commercial success and reaffirmed Saif’s position amongst the top stars in Bollywood. As far as his personal life is concerned, he married Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor in October of 2012. This is his second marriage; he was earlier married to actress Amrita Singh.
