Rani Mukerji was born on 21 March 1978. Her father, Ram Mukerji, is a retired director and one of the founders of Filmalaya Studios while her mother, Krishna, was a playback singer. She has one brother. She belongs to the same family that actress Kajol does.
Rani made her debut in films with a cameo in the Bengali film, Biyer Phool in 1996. Then in 1997 she made her debut in Hindi films starring in the film Raja Ki Ayegi Baarat. The movie did not maange to create too much of a stir.
But, in 1998 things turned around for Rani when she starred in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai alongside Shahrukh Khan. The movie was a huge commercial success and her acting in the film was loved and widely appreciated. In fact, she won a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her role. In 2002 she acted in Saathiya alongside Vivek Oberoi. The movie was a critical and commercial success and led to award nominations for Rani.
Hum Tum in which she starred in 2004 was again a commercial and critical success, and for her role she won the Filmfare Best Actress award. She also acted in Yuva that year, and for her role in the film won herself the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress award, along with her Best Actress trophy.
In the following years she acted in a number of successful films and reached the pinnacle of her profession. Of her roles, the one that fans till today remember is that in the 2005 film Black. For the role she bagged two more Filmfare Awards: Best Actress and Actress – Critics.
In 2012 she starred alongside Amir Khan in Talaash. Her acting in the movie was once again appreciated by fans and critics alike. As far as her personal life is concerned, she has never come out and officially declared seeing anyone.
