Malaika Arora was born on 23 October 1973. Her father Anil Arora worked in the Merchant Navy and her mother Joyce Polycarp is a housewife. She started her career with modeling at a fairly young age.
She was then chosen to be a VJ on MTV right when the channel began its operation in India. She made her mark, as an anchor on the channel and hosted some of the most popular shows on it like, Love Line and Style Check. She soon became popular with the urban youth of India, who were hooked on MTV. She also modeled in a number of TV and magazine ads.
She then made a cameo appearance in the song Chaiyya Chaiyya in the film Dil Se. The song achieved cult status and so did Malaika who gyrated to the song on a moving train, in the film. Thanks to the popularity of Chaiyaa Chaiyya, Malaika was pursued by filmmakers to make cameo appearances in songs for their films. The filmmakers were well aware of the sensuality that Malaika could bring to a song through her dance and her appearance.
The fact that she was a great dancer did help her cause. In fact, there would be times when the song in which Malaika appeared, would be as popular as the film itself. Then in 2010 Malaika reached the pinnacle of her popularity with the song Munni Badnam from Dabaang.
Incidentally she was a co-producer in the film along with her husband Arbaaz Khan. Besides, films Malaika has judged a number of reality shows on television, many of them have been dance based reality shows and in those her judgment has always been held in high esteem.
As far as her personal life is concerned she is married to Arbaaz Khan who is Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s younger brother. Both Malaika and Arbaaz in 2012 jointly produced Dabaang 2,which went on to become a huge commercial success.
