Madhuri Dixit was born on 15 May 1967. She was born to Shanker and Snehlata Dixit. She made her debut with the Hindi film Abodh in 1984. But, it was Tezaab in 1988 that shot her to fame.
She then acted in films like Dil (1990), Saajan (1991), Beta (1992), Khalnayak (1993), Hum Aapke Hain Koun..! (1994) and Raja (1995). Each of these films were a critical and commercial success, catapulting her to the pinnacle of the Hindi film industry in the 90s.
Although, after Raja there was brief lull in her career, but she bounced back with Dil To Pagal Hai in 1997 and subsequently acted in films like Mrityudand (1997), Pukar (2000), Lajja (2001) and Devdas (2002). For each of these films she received widespread critical acclaim.
Then in 2002 she took a break from films, in order to raise a family. In 2007 she made a comeback with Aaja Nachle. The film was touted to be her ticket back to the superstardom she had left behind. Unfortunately, the film was both a commercial and a critical failure.
It has to be mentioned here that her performance in the film was appreciated, despite the film’s shortcomings in the other departments. She was then roped in to judge the popular dance reality show on TV called Jhalak Dikhla Jaa. She was loved by the audiences so much that she ended up judging two consecutive seasons of the show.
Currently, she is working on two projects, Gulaab Gang and Dedh Ishqiya. She is even planning to open her own production house. For her career in acting, Madhuri Dixit has won a number of awards and accolades amongst them are five Filmfare Best Actress Awards, besides many others. Also, she has won a Padma Shri; the country’s 4th highest civilian award.
