Karisma Kapoor was born on 25 June 1974. She is the daughter of Randhir and Babita Kapoor, both of whom were erstwhile Bollywood stars. In 1991 she made her Hindi film debut with Prem Qaidi at the age of seventeen.
She then went on to act in film like Jigar (1992), Anari (1993), Raja Babu, Suhaag (1994), Coolie No. 1, Gopi Kishan (1995), Saajan Chale Sasural & Jeet (1996). All these film were box-office successes and establish Karisma as one of the top actresses in Bollywood. Then in 1996 she starred in Raja Hindustani. The film was a huge commercial critical success. Her performance in the film was greatly appreciated, so much so that she received the Filmfare Best Actress award for it.
This film basically proved that she could act. In the subsequent year she acted in Dil To Paagal Hai and this film too was a huge critical and commercial success. The film reiterated what a fine performer Karisma was and for her efforts she received the Filmfare Best Supporting Actress award.
Subsequently she acted in critically acclaimed projects, Fiza (2000) and Zubeidaa (2001), for which she earned the Best Actress and Best Actress (Critics) trophies at the Filmfare ceremony. It was now conceded by everyone that, Karisma Kapoor was one of the best actresses in Bollywood.
In 2003 she married Sanjay Kapoor and took a sabbatical from films. Then in 2012 she made a comeback with Dangerous Ishq. Unfortunately, the film didn’t do well at the box-office and was panned by critics.
Karisma during her career has received a number of awards and accolades for her acting; these include four Filmfare Awards and one National Film Award. In the future, Karisma Kapoor will be seen in the remake of Satte Pe Satta alongside Sanjay Dutt.
