Born on 21 September 1980, Kareena Kapoor is the daughter of the Kapoor family, which is known as the first family of Bollywood. Five generations of Kapoors have acted in films; therefore acting is in Kareena’s DNA.
Both her parents, father Randhir Kapoor and mother Babita were famous actors during their day. Her elder sister Karishma Kapoor is also a famous actress. Kareena made her acting debut with the film Refugee, which also saw the debut of Abhishek Bachchan. The movie wasn’t a commercial success, but filmmakers saw potential in her and she was offered a number of films.
She then began doing roles that critics felt were devoid of any challenge. In order to silence her critics and challenge herself as an actress, she consciously began choosing roles which could be termed as different. For example Chameli (2004) in which she essayed the role of a sex worker, Dev (2004) and Omkara (2006), all of which saw her exercising her acting cops.
Then in 2007, she starred in ‘Jab We Met’. The movie was a romantic comedy, which went on to become a huge commercial and critical success. In fact, it was Kareena’s acting in the film that was appreciated the most. She was also received Filmfare Award for Best Actress, for her efforts.
In 2009, she acted in ‘3 Idiots’ alongside Amir Khan. The movie redefined the meaning of success, when it managed to gross more than 200 crore INR at the box-office. As far as her personal life is concerned, she began dating the famous Bollywood star Saif Ali Khan in 2007.
After a steady four-year relationship the couple got married in a private ceremony in 2012. Over the years Kareena Kapoor has managed to establish herself as one of the top actresses of Bollywood and as a result has starred opposite all the top heroes of her generation.
