John Abraham was born on 17 December 1972. His father is a Malayali and his mother Firoza Irani is a Parsi. He has one brother who is younger. Abraham began his career with modeling and became quite a successful model in a short span of time.
He made his Hindi film debut with Jism in 2003. His role in the movie won him the Filmfare Best Male Debutant award. His onscreen chemistry with Bipasha Basu was also appreciated. Then in 2004 he played the role of a villain in the film Dhoom. The movie was a commercial success and his role in the film made filmmakers take notice of him as an actor.
In 2006 he again played a negative character in the film Zinda. John then took the offbeat path and acted in the film Water in 2005, which went on to garner a fair amount of critical success. Audiences were surprised by the subdued nature of his character and the complete lack of glamour the role had.
In 2006 he acted in the film Baabul and for his efforts in the film was nominated for Filmfare Best Supporting Actor award. Slowly but surely critics and audiences were beginning to take notice of the actor’s hard work, although he did receive flak for his deficiency in the acting department.
There is no doubt that he acted in a number of films like Housefull 2, Force, New York, Dostana, Taxi No. 9211, Garam Masala and Dhoom which were all commercial successes, but of these there is just one film Force, which is solo hero project. In other words, John hasn’t yet been able to prove to filmmakers or audiences that he is an actor capable enough, to carry a film completely on his own shoulders.
He recently established his own production company John Abraham Entertainment, which produced the film Vicky Donor. The movie was a huge commercial critical success, although John didn’t act in it and was only the producer.
