Born on 5 January 1986, Deepika Padukone is the daughter of the Indian badminton ace Prakash Padukone. Although she was a decent badminton player herself and had started playing at a very young age, she finally chose to go into showbiz.
She started her career with modeling and made her debut in acting with the Kannada film Aishwarya in 2006. Then in 2007 she made her debut in the Hindi film industry with Om Shanti Om, where starred opposite Shahrukh Khan. For her efforts she received the Filmfare Best Debutant Award. The film was also a huge commercial success.
Following her debut, she acted in Love Aaj Kal (2009) and Housefull (2010). Love Aaj Kal was both a critical and a commercial success and Housefull was a huge commercial success. In fact, Deepika was nominated for the Best Actress Filmfare Award for her role in Love Aaj Kal. In 2012 she stared in Homi Adjania’s film Cocktail, alongside Saif Ali Khan.
In the film Deepika’s character had negative shades to it, and the way she essayed her role, met with the approval of critics. Besides, due to her rising popularity in Bollywood, she has been chosen to be the ambassador of a number of brands like Tissot, Sony Cybershot, Yamaha, Nescafe and Kingfisher Airlines.
As far as her personal life is concerned, Deepika began a highly publicized relationship with Ranbir Kapoor in 2008. The two have even starred together in the film Bachna Ae Haseeno. Both were very forthcoming and open about the relationship, but unfortunately it didn’t last long. The two broke up in 2009.
It was then rumored that she in 2010 had begun dating Siddharth Mallya, son of Vijay Mallya, the head of UB Group and Kingfisher Airlines, but it was later reported that the two broke up in 2012.
