Bipasha Basu was born on 7 January 1979. She was a successful model before she made her foray into films. She made her debut as actress with Ajnabee in 2001. She essayed a negative character in the film and even won a Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut for her efforts. Then in 2002 she acted in Raaz, which was a commercial success.
In 2003 she acted in Jism, which was an erotic thriller. It was after this movie that filmmakers started getting up and taking notice of Bipasha. She had an undeniable sensuality about her, which was appealing to the audiences. This side of her persona was exploited in films like No Entry (2005), Phir Hera Pheri, Dhoom 2 (both 2006). All these film were commercial successes and helped Bipasha make a name for herself.
Her biggest commercial success though, came in the form of the movie Race in 2008. On the way she also acted in films like Apharan (2005), Corporate (2006) and Bachna Ae Haseeno (2008). These films helped her showcase her histrionic abilities and her roles in these films were praised by the critics. She even received award nomination for her role in these films.
She has been nominated for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress twice each along with one nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role.
In 2012 she acted in the film Raaz 3 which was a part of the same franchise, in which she had acted years ago. The movie was a commercial success and the way she essayed her role in the movie also got noticed. Bipasha shall soon be making her debut in the international film area with the Australian film Singularity, which is slated for release in 2013.
As far as her personal life is concerned she dated actor John Abraham for a long time, until they broke up in 2011. Since then she has been linked with a number of men, but apparently isn’t in a committed relationship at the moment.
