Arjun Rampal was born on 26 November 1972. His father is Amarjeet Rampal, who is Sikh and his mother Gwen Rampal is Dutch. Arjun began his career with modeling and was one of India’s biggest models, before he made a transition into films. He made his acting debut in 2001 with the Hindi film Pyaar Ishq Aur Mohabbat.
For his efforts he received the Filmfare Best Debutant Award. He then went on to star in a number of films like Dil Ka Rishta (2003), Asambhav (2004) and Yakeen (2005). All of these films had Arjun in a lead role and unfortunately none did well critically or commercially.
He then took up roles that did not see him carrying the film solely on his shoulders. Films like Don – The Chase Begins Again (2006), Aankhen (2002), Om Shanti Om (2007), Rock On!! (2008), Raajneeti (2010), Ra.One (2011) and Chakravyuh (2012) all saw him in roles that could either be called supporting roles, or multi-hero projects where the fate of the film wasn’t dependent on Arjun alone.
Arjun over the years has realized that he hasn’t yet achieved the box-office clout to make a Hindi film successful purely on his own steam. But, he has also realized that audiences approve of him being in a supporting role in a film.
It has also been observed that his popularity as an actor has grown over the years and he has also improved as an actor, which has led to him being offered roles that are pivotal to the script. His career as an actor basically took an upswing with Rock On!! in 2008. In the film he was seen in supporting capacity.
But, Arjun despite being in a supporting capacity in the film, managed to make his presence felt and won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor and the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for Rock On!!. In 2013 he shall be seen in a starring role in the film Inkaar.
