Anil Kapoor was born on 24 December 1959. His father Surinder Kapoor was an erstwhile Bollywood producer and his mother Nirmal. Anil made his debut with the Hindi film Hamaare Tumhare in 1979 and was cast in a minor role.
He then went on to act in films like Hum Paanch (1980) and Shakti (1982) which also saw him in a minor role. Then in 1983 he starred in the film Who Saat Din. His acting in the film was widely appreciated and so was the film. Then in 1984 he acted in the film Mashaal and garnered a lot of praise. He also won the Filmfare Best Supporting Actor award for his role in the film.
He then acted in Yudh and Saheb and once again his performances in both the films were appreciated. Then came 1985 and with it the film Meri Jung. The film was a huge commercial and critical success and managed to at long last catapult Anil to stardom. In 1986 he acted in Karma and Janbaaz and both the films were box-office hits.
Anil Kapoor had now arrived and was being touted as one of the biggest stars in Bollywood. In 1987 he acted in Mr. India, which only helped to increase his tally of box-office hits, thus cementing his position as a star. In the following years he kept acted in a number of critically and commercially successful films. He also received numerous awards and recognition for his roles.
He won his first National Film Award in the Best Actor category for his role in Rajkumar Santoshi’s critically acclaimed Pukar in 2000.In 2008 he was chosen to play a cameo in the Hollywood blockbuster Slumdog Millionaire. Anil was now recognized globally thanks to the film being widely recognized by the Academy.
In 2010, Anil starred in the eighth season of the American television series 24. He was then chosen for a part in the Hollywood film Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol that released in December 2011. Anil shall in the future be seen in a number of films in Bollywood like Mr. India 2, the sequel to No Entry, Race 2 and Sanjay Gupta’s Shootout at Wadala.
