Akshay Kumar was born on September 9 1967. His father was an army officer and his mother is Aruna Bhatia. In 1991 Akshay made his debut with the film Saugandh. In 1992 he followed it up with Khiladi, which was a commercial success.
In 1994 he starred in two films Main Khiladi Tu Anadi and Mohra. Both these films were commercially very successful. In also acted in Yeh Dillagi that year. He starred in a total of 11 films in 1994, which can be termed as nothing short of astonishing.
In 1995 he yet again starred in a Khiladi film with Sabse Bada Khiladi. The movie was a commercial success and filmmakers were now convinced that Akshay Kumar acting in a Khiladi film would mean its success. This was proven true when in 1996 Khiladiyon Ka Khiladi also became a huge commercial success.
In 1997, Kumar was seen in a supporting role in Yash Chopra’s hit film Dil To Pagal Hai, co-starring Shahrukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit and Karisma Kapoor, for which he received a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award nomination. In the following years Akshay starred in a number of films and had a mixed fortune at the box-office. Then in 2007 a string of hits like Namastey London, Heyy Babyy and Bhool Bhulaiyaa, forced everyone to acknowledge that Akshay had arrived and was a now a big box-office draw.
In 2008 he acted in Singh Is King, which was again a huge commercial success. This film established Akshay as a certified superstar and cleared all doubts from anybody’s mind that he was now one of the top heroes in Bollywood.
In 2009 though, he had a string of failures like Chandni Chowk to China, 8 x 10 Tasveer, Kambakkht Ishq, Blue and De Dana Dan, which put his top position in Bollywood in doldrums. Then in 2012, Akshay once again bounced back with Houseful 2 and Rowdy Rathore. Both the films joined the elite 100 crore club, by earning more than 100 crore INR at the box-office.
