Aamir Khan was born on 14 March 1965. His father Tahir Hussain was an erstwhile Bollywood film producer and his mother is Zeenath Hussain. Aamir made his acting debut as a child in the Hindi film Yaadon Ki Baarat in 1973.
Then in 1984 after he was all grown up, he acted in the Hindi film Holi. But, it was Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak in 1988 that made him an overnight star. The movie was a huge commercial success and the role Aamir essayed in the film made him a heartthrob of the masses. Recognition followed quickly enough in the form of his first National Film Award as a Special Jury Award for his roles in the films Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988) and Raakh (1989).
In the following years he went on star in a number of film, then in 1996 he starred in the film Raja Hindustani, a huge commercial success. It was his role in Raja Hindustani that won Aamir his first Filmfare Best Actor award. In 2001 he acted in and produced the film Lagaan. The film was actually Aamir’s debut as a producer, and also saw him launch his own production company.
Lagaan was not only commercially and critically successful, but was also one of the only three films from India ever to be nominated for an Oscar. Lagaan brought Aamir global recognition and in his own country he was now placed on the highest pedestal on which he remains even today.
In the following years he went on to act in films like Rang De Basanti (2006), Taare Zameen Par (2007) and Ghajini (2008). Each of them was a huge commercial and critical success. Then came 2009 and with it came 3 Idiots, this movie starring Aamir Khan managed to create a record no other film in Bollywood has ever managed to create.
3 Idiots earned more than 200 crore INR at the box-office, which is a record that has still not been broken. In 2012 Aamir starred in Talaash. The movie did fairly well both commercially and critically.
